Main Types of Transparent Packing Tape
Although they are all called transparent tape, they can be divided into the following categories based on different base materials, adhesives and uses:
Classification by Material
BOPP Tape (Most Commonly Used): Biaxially oriented polypropylene film is used as the base material. It features high transparency, good strength and low cost, and is the absolute main choice for daily packaging and carton sealing.
PVC Tape: Polyvinyl chloride film is used as the base material. It is softer in texture, with strong toughness and puncture resistance, but has poor environmental friendliness and may deform when heated. It is rarely used for packaging now.
PET Tape: Polyester film is used as the base material. It has extremely high strength and toughness (similar to the material of plastic bottles), is resistant to high temperature and tearing, and is often used for heavy cartons or special industrial fields.
Classification by Adhesive
Water-based Acrylic Adhesive: Environmentally friendly and non-toxic, with almost no odor, extremely high transparency and long-lasting adhesion. However, its initial adhesion is slightly weak, and the adhesion works slowly in low-temperature environments. It is suitable for scenarios requiring environmental friendliness and odor control.
Oil-based Acrylic Adhesive: It has strong initial adhesion and sticks quickly and firmly, making it the mainstream in the current market. But it may have a slight solvent odor, and its environmental friendliness is slightly inferior to that of water-based adhesive.
Natural Rubber Adhesive: It has extremely strong initial adhesion and good adhesion to rough surfaces (such as corrugated cardboard). However, it is prone to aging and yellowing in the long run, and may leave adhesive residues.
Classification by Function
Carton Sealing Tape: The most common type, meeting general packaging needs.
Reinforced Tape: Glass fiber or other reinforcing materials are added to the tape. It has extremely high tensile strength and is used for packaging heavy objects or fragile items.
Invisible Tape (Similar to Masking Tape but Different): Although it is also called "transparent tape", it usually refers to the one for stationery use. It has low viscosity, is easy to tear, and is not suitable for packaging.
